This Cancellation & Refund Policy explains how refunds are handled for cruise bookings made through MetaHeight Cruises (“we”, “us”), an independent travel agency. Because cruises are operated by third-party cruise lines, most refund outcomes are governed by the cruise line’s published cancellation schedule and the fare type you purchase, together with applicable U.S. consumer-protection rules.
Unlike airline tickets, cruises are not covered by the U.S. DOT 24-hour airline refund rule. Cruise refunds depend on how many days before sailing you cancel.
How Cruise Cancellation Schedules Work
Cruise lines typically use a tiered schedule: the closer to the sailing date you cancel, the larger the penalty. Deposits are often non-refundable, and some promotional fares are fully non-refundable from the time of booking.
The example below is illustrative only — your exact schedule is set by the cruise line and shown to you before you book:
- More than 90 days before sailing: full refund or loss of deposit only (varies by line)
- 89–57 days: cancellation fee often equal to the deposit
- 56–30 days: roughly 50% of the fare
- 29–15 days: roughly 75% of the fare
- 14 days or fewer: typically 100% (non-refundable)
Cruise Line Cancellations & Non-Performance
If the cruise line cancels your sailing, you are generally entitled to a refund or a future cruise credit under that line’s policy. Cruise lines that embark passengers from U.S. ports are required to maintain financial responsibility with the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) to cover refunds for non-performed voyages. We help you request and track any refund you’re owed.
Deposits, Final Payment & Promotional Fares
- Deposits may be non-refundable depending on the fare and line.
- A final-payment deadline applies; missing it can result in automatic cancellation and penalties.
- Reduced-deposit or “non-refundable fare” promotions carry stricter terms, which we disclose before booking.
Service Fees
Any service fee charged by MetaHeight Cruises for booking or processing is disclosed before purchase. Such fees are separate from the cruise line’s charges and are generally non-refundable once the service has been performed, except where required by law.
Travel Insurance
Because cruise penalties can be significant, we recommend considering travel insurance, which may cover cancellations for covered reasons. Coverage terms are set by the insurer.
